The lettuce didn’t wilt at Fresh Market Inc. yesterday, but the shares did: They slumped 12 percent for the biggest decline since the company’s initial public offering of stock in November 2010. The trigger was the Greensboro, N.C.-based grocery chain’s latest forecast of earnings in fiscal 2012 for as little as $1.01 a share; that would fall short of the average analyst estimate of $1.05.
