Robbins Library to host showing of film about Luis Tiant

Arlington’s Robbins Library will show Emmy-nominated documentary “The Lost Son of Havana” about former Red Sox pitcher Luis Tiant next Wednesday as part of a free independent film series.

The film is about Tiant’s return to Cuba after 46 years in exile, and his encounter with unexpected demons and unexpected gifts from his family. The film was called a “sociopolitical masterpiece” by Peter Gammons of ESPN and awarded the Best Film of 2009 by the Baseball Film Festival.

Arlington residents, Lance Greene, who is an actor and producer, and Dave McLaughlin, who is the writer and director, of the film “On Broadway,” will lead discussions after the film.

The Robbins Library is located at 700 Massachusetts Ave. and is on the #79 MBTA bus line. Parking is available near the library. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Films will be shown in the community room. For more information on the film series, go to www.robbinslibrary.org
