Massachusetts State Police are investigating two fatal car accidents that occurred early this morning, according to a statement from the department.

At about 1:43 a.m., police responded to a single-car crash in the northbound lane of I-95 in Burlington between exits 33A and 33B, the statement said.

The victim, a 46-year-old man, had been driving a 2000 Land Rover Discovery. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the statement. Police did not release the victim’s identity but said he was from Burlington.

Speed was the main contributing factor to the crash and the victim was not wearing a seat belt, the statement said.

State Police responded to another crash at 3:12 a.m. involving a pedestrian in the eastbound lane of Interstate 195 in Swansea, the statement said.

Chrisie J. Wallace, 40, of Fall River was struck by a 1998 Cadillac Deville and declared dead at the scene.

No charges were filed against the driver, 48-year-old Julian Juan of New Bedford. The reason Wallace was on the highway is under investigation.

Police did not release any further information on either crash.
