He was a supporter of Hillary Clinton and handled Chelsea Clinton’s wedding, but Bryan Rafanelli also has a friend — and frequent client — in Michelle Obama. The Boston-based party planner is fast becoming the go-to guy for social events produced by the Obama White House. This week, Rafanelli was in merry old England, stage-managing a regal dinner for Queen Elizabeth II hosted by President Obama. The three-course meal at the US ambassador’s residence featured more than a few famous faces, including actor Tom Hanks and British leading man Colin Firth, who won an Oscar this year for his performance as the queen’s father in “The King’s Speech.’’ Soccer stud David Beckham also attended Wednesday’s dinner at Winfield House, as did “Harry Potter’’ creator J.K. Rowling, Navy admiral James Stavridis, Pulitzer-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, and British Prime Minister David Cameron and wife Samantha. (The spiffy crowd was serenaded by Kristin Chenoweth.) Britain is not renowned for its food — beans and toast, anyone? — but the menu was an appetizing medley: grilled fillet of Highlands beef and crushed Jersey Royal potatoes and a classic pecan pie and brandy ice cream for dessert. We tried to reach Rafanelli yesterday, but he was flying home. His next White House gig, we’re told, is the June 7 state dinner for German Chancellor Angela Merkel. In January, he orchestrated the state dinner for President Hu Jintao of China.
