Former Red Sox catcher Victor Martinez hit his first home run for the Tigers.
Blue Jays 6, Twins 1 — Kyle Drabek pitched seven innings of one-hit ball for his first big league win, Jose Molina and Jayson Nix hit homers, and host Toronto beat Minnesota.
Drabek (1-0) didn’t allow a hit until Denard Span’s one-out single in the sixth. He allowed one run, walked three, and struck out seven. Francisco Liriano (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits.
Phillies 9, Astros 4 — Cliff Lee struck out 11 over seven innings in his first game back with Philadelphia, five players had multiple hits, and the Phillies beat visiting Houston.
Lee (1-0) allowed three runs and four hits. The victory might be costly to the Phillies because center fielder Shane Victorino left with soreness in his left calf.
Mariners 5, Athletics 2 — Ichiro Suzuki had two infield hits to become Seattle’s career leader, including one in the ninth that drove in the go-ahead run in a win over host Oakland. Suzuki has 2,248 hits, one better than Edgar Martinez. The milestone came on the 10th anniversary of Suzuki’s major league debut.
Orioles 3, Rays 1 — Chris Tillman held host Tampa Bay hitless for six innings and Nick Markakis made a leaping catch at the wall in the ninth to preserve Baltimore’s victory.
Tillman, 22, lost his bid for a no-hitter when manager Buck Showalter lifted him after he threw 101 pitches. Brian Roberts hit a three-run homer in the eighth.
Giants 10, Dodgers 0 — Matt Cain (1-0) scattered five hits in six innings, Aubrey Huff and Freddy Sanchez drove in three runs apiece, and San Francisco beat host Los Angeles.
White Sox 8, Indians 3 — Edwin Jackson allowed two earned runs and five hits in six innings, and Gordon Beckham and Carlos Quentin each had two RBIs for visiting Chicago. Jackson is 8-0 in his last nine starts against Cleveland.
Mets 6, Marlins 4 — David Wright’s third hit of the game brought Jose Reyes home with the go-ahead run in the 10th as New York beat Florida in Miami. Wright also homered.
