Charter school expansion approved

March 06, 2011

The state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education has approved an application for the Community Day Charter School to open two additional locations in the city in time for the 2012-2013 school year. Each location will allow for 120 students in kindergarten through second grade, with plans to expand up to 400 students through eighth grade at each location by 2019. Mitchell Chester, the state education commissioner, recommended expansion of the school, which has a waiting list of more than 1,000. Locations for the new schools haven’t been decided.
