Dior suspends Galliano after bar incident

Fashion house Christian Dior suspended creative director John Galliano — whose wildly inventive designs have defined the French label for the past 14 years — yesterday after he was accused of issuing an anti-Semitic insult at a Paris bar. The circumstances of Thursday night’s altercation weren’t clear, but Paris prosecutors said the British designer was questioned and released after a couple accused him of insulting them. Under French law, making anti-Semitic remarks can be punishable by up to six months in prison.

Judge backs Seinfeld in cookbook dispute

A judge yesterday threw out a lawsuit by a cookbook author who accused Jerry Seinfeld of hurting her reputation by mocking her on national television. State Justice Marcy Friedman said it was clear the comedian was joking when he called Missy Chase Lapine a “wacko’’ on the “Late Show With David Letterman’’ in 2007. The judge said Seinfeld also has a constitutional right to express his opinion. The suit stemmed from a legal battle in which Lapine accused Seinfeld’s wife, Jessica, of stealing her idea for a book on how to get children to eat healthy.
