The Oakland Raiders have hired longtime NFL assistant Al Saunders as their offensive coordinator.

The Raiders updated their coaching roster on their website yesterday. The only newcomer on the list was Saunders, although there are still other openings to fill, most notably defensive coordinator.

Among the coaches from last season’s team no longer listed on the site are offensive line coach Jim Michalczik, quarterbacks coach Paul Hackett, linebackers coach Mike Haluchak, assistant offensive line coach Chris Morgan, and passing game coordinator Ted Tollner.

Most of the other coaches from last season’s team are at the Senior Bowl in Alabama with new head coach Hue Jackson, who was hired to replace Tom Cable last week.

Saunders spent the past two seasons as an offensive consultant in Baltimore. He was on the same staff as Jackson in 2009. Jackson joined the Raiders this past season as offensive coordinator.

Saunders has been coaching in the NFL for nearly three decades. He went 17-22 in two-plus seasons as head coach for the Chargers from 1986-88 and has spent most of his career as an offensive assistant.

Broncos name Allen After hiring Dennis Allen late Monday night as his defensive coordinator, Broncos coach John Fox announced yesterday he has brought two more of his assistants over from Carolina: secondary coach Ron Milus and linebackers coach Richard Smith.

Both were on Fox’s staff with the Panthers the last two seasons and both have worked for the Broncos before.

Late Monday night, Allen was selected to fix the league’s worst defense. Allen, who was New Orleans’ secondary coach the last five seasons, is the Broncos’ sixth defensive coordinator in the last six years.

Milus served as Mike Shanahan’s secondary coach from 2000-02 before stops with the Cardinals, Giants, and Rams.

Smith was an assistant in Denver from 1993-96, coaching special teams and linebackers.

Endorsement for VickMichael Vick has signed his first endorsement contract since his release from prison.

The Eagles’ Pro Bowl quarterback inked a two-year contract with Unequal Technologies, a provider of the pads Vick wore last season.

Chief executive officer Rob Vito said Vick is the company’s first corporate spokesman.

Vick was once the NFL’s highest-paid player and he endorsed many products during his six seasons with the Falcons. But he lost everything following his 2007 arrest on dogfighting charges, for which he served 18 months in federal prison.

He returned to the NFL in 2009 with the Eagles, and worked his way from third-string to the key cog on a division-winning team.
