Xcmbex: Maureen — my thoughts exactly. The Craigie burger is out of this world.
D.F.: Other favorite burgers around town? What are your thoughts on the Radius burger? I think it’s a delicious total package, though less meat-focused than some other expensive burgers.
Sarah B: I would have to vote for Bartley’s or B. Good. I like having the choice to swap out a veggie or turkey patty and still get fun toppings.
Marc H: I’d probably pay $20 for a burger with bone marrow added (Craigie on Main), but would otherwise stick to much cheaper burgers from places like Mr. Bartley’s, O’Sullivan’s, or Flat Patties. By the way, the burgers at Cappy’s Tavern in Readville are very tasty, and pretty cheap. I wouldn’t recommend it on a first date, though.
D.F.: I’ve never understood the O’Sullivan’s burger, which I want to love but don’t. It’s just so . . . round. That Craigie burger is really good, as is the Back Bay Social Club burger. I’m less impressed with the Bristol burger, which I also wanted to love, just because it’s fun to eat it in that setting.
Xcmbex: Have you tried Tasty Burger in the Fenway? I’d like to hear people’s thoughts.
D.F.: I tried it before they switched over from tenderloin to chuck. It was fine. I didn’t realize you could add onion and pickles, and that would have made a big difference. I love that you can get half fries, half onion rings in an order. Every place should do that. It should be a law.
Carl: I did go to Tasty Burger, and I do like the half fries/rings combo. I thought the burger was good, but not as good as Bristol, and you know I still love O’Sullivan’s.
Nelly: Eastern Standard makes a great burger with cheddar on brioche and fries for $12-$13.
Xcmbex: I have to disagree on the Eastern Standard burger — I’ve ordered it several times, and only once did it have any seasoning. The other times the burger was completely bland. That’s OK, though, because I like pretty much everything else on the Eastern Standard menu.
D.F.: We’ll soon have more great (I hope) burgers. I’m excited to try the 5 Napkin burger, a New York import.
Matt: The Draft in Allston makes a great big burger with fries, and they are only 5 bucks for weekday lunch. Good turkey burger too!
