Palin: Full dance card

Bristol Palin said she didn’t think twice before waltzing into “Dancing With the Stars,’’ though she’s barely danced in her life. In an appearance Friday on NBC’s “Tonight Show With Jay Leno,’’ the 19-year-old daughter of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin says she learned about the invitation through a text message and signed within a week to appear on the new season starting Sept. 20. Leno asked if she had gone to her high school prom. Palin replied “No, I was pregnant!’’ Palin told Leno she and Levi Johnston, the father of her son, Tripp, weren’t meant to be, and she’s focused on being a mom.

is used to having her portrait painted — though rarely at breakfast, and by her husband. An image of the British monarch at the breakfast table, painted by Prince Philip in 1965, is being made public as part of a book about royal portraiture. “The Queen at Breakfast’’ shows Elizabeth seated at a table in a Windsor Castle dining room, reading a newspaper with a loaf of bread and jam jar in front of her. The oil painting appears in the new book “The Royal Portrait: Image and Impact,’’ which is published next week.

A Masters-ful Open

There’s been intense competition going on at the US Open, and it has nothing to do with aces or foot faults. Instead, five of Bravo TV’s “Top Chef Masters’’ have been working to create the best food of the tournament — something more elegant than hot dogs, pretzels, and burgers. “This is the US Open. There is nothing like this,’’ said Miami-based chef Carmen Gonzalez before Saturday night’s match between James Blake and Novack Djokovic. “The people who come here, they want good food.’’ To that end, they created recipes like pulled pork tacos, from Los Angeles chef Susan Feniger, and a shrimp and tilapia burger, by Rick Moonen. All of the dishes have been on sale since the start of the championship last week, and the creator of the most popular dish will win $5,000 for their favorite charity. Jonathan Waxman’s roast chicken panini with basil aioli and greens was the victor; his charity was Citymeals-on-Wheels.
