THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW

(Comcast Movies: All Movies) Hey, a twister just ate the Hollywood sign! Now that’s entertainment — for about 20 minutes. The rest of Roland Emmerich’s disaster epic feels like the most expensive Power Point presentation ever made. The movie is about the ravages of global warming, with Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhaal starring in a father-saves-his-son subplot. (PG-13; runs through Sept. 13) WESLEY MORRIS

THE 40-YEAR-OLD VIRGIN

(Comcast Movies: All Movies) Andy Spitzer’s sex life is like his collection of vintage toys — still in the original wrapping. His co-workers, however, encourage him to have sex for the first time. Disaster ensues. Along the way, a spree of vulgarities becomes a surprising essay on the merits of maturity. With a funny and touching title performance from Steve Carell, who wrote the script with Judd Apatow, who directs. (R; runs through Sept. 20) WESLEY MORRIS

WOLF

(TMC on Comcast) In Mike Nichols’s darkly witty take on the werewolf legend, it’s not just Jack Nicholson who’s showing the effects of that magic bite — his whole world has gone feral. Nicholson gives a beautifully detailed performance as the overcivilized book editor who dances on the knife edge between exhilaration at his new powers and terror at the new places they take him. (R; runs through Sept. 16)
