C’mon, take a dip

What would you give for an ice cream bar — vanilla, Oreo, or raspberry-lime sorbet from J.P. Licks — covered in 72 percent cocoa bittersweet chocolate and rolled, at your discretion, in multicolored sprinkles, chopped almonds, or coconut? So, just get yourself to Serenade Chocolatier in Brookline Village, where this platonic ideal of a bar ($4.25) is a summertime special. Shop manager Jen Pawlowski explains that the cold stuff is molded (in a silicone rubber pop mold) and held in the freezer, then custom-dipped. When the thin coat of chocolate hits the ice cream, it sets up almost instantly. Classic vanilla is the most popular, she says. But the sorbet pop tastes like a frozen, crazily luxurious chocolate-covered raspberry bonbon. Bars are only available at the Brookline location; at the South Station shop, you’ll have to make do with gelato from Toscanini’s Ice Cream.
