Andy Pettitte threw 7 1/3 sharp innings in his first career start against his hometown team, reaching a couple of milestones and helping the Yankees beat the Houston Astros, 4-3, last night in New York.

Francisco Cervelli hit a two-out, two-run single in New York’s three-run first inning, and Mark Teixeira tacked on a run-scoring single in the fifth, also with two outs.

Pettitte allowed two earned runs and four hits against his former team to improve to 3-0 with a 2.10 ERA in his last four starts. The lefthander, who turns 38 Tuesday, struck out four after recording a season-high 10 Ks in his previous outing last Saturday at Toronto.

Pettitte (8-1) reached 3,000 career innings when he retired the first two batters of the game, joining Philadelphia’s Jamie Moyer as the only active pitchers to reach the mark. He became the third player to record 200 wins with the Yankees, joining Whitey Ford and Red Ruffing, and snapped a tie with Ford for 58th on the career list with win No. 237.

Pettitte got a warm ovation from the crowd of 46,883 when he left with runners on second and third. Jeff Keppinger hit a sacrifice fly off Joba Chamberlain to cut it to 4-3 before Lance Berkman struck out swinging to end the inning.

Mariano Rivera worked a perfect ninth for his 15th save in 16 opportunities.

Missing Alex Rodriguez, New York kicked off a nine-game homestand with its sixth consecutive win at Yankee Stadium and fourth win in five games overall. Rodriguez is day to day after an MRI revealed tendinitis in his right hip flexor.

Rockies 5, Blue Jays 3 — Ubaldo Jimenez pitched through rain and problems with his command to become baseball’s first 12-game winner as Colorado beat visiting Toronto in a game called after six innings.

Jimenez (12-1) allowed a season-high three runs and five hits in six innings, and his major league-low ERA edged up to 1.16 from 0.93.

Ricky Romero (5-3) allowed four runs and seven hits, including a tiebreaking home run by Carlos Gonzalez in the fifth inning.

Marlins 14, Rays 9 — Anibal Sanchez pitched seven solid innings and Gaby Sanchez homered twice and drove in a career-high six runs to pace Florida in the opener of the Citrus Series in St. Petersburg, Fla.

The Marlins beat their intrastate rivals for just the third time in 13 tries over the past three seasons.

Mets 5, Orioles 1 — Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey baffled visiting Baltimore for seven innings to improve to 4-0. Chris Carter hit his first major league homer, a three-run shot that gave New York a 4-0 lead in the fourth.

Indians 7, Nationals 2 — Austin Kearns drove in four runs with two homers as Cleveland beat visiting Washington.
