Padres 5, Mets 1 — Adrian Gonzalez hit a grand slam with one out in the 11th inning to lift host San Diego over New York, which wasted another strong performance by Johan Santana.

Cardinals 4, Reds 1 — Chris Carpenter beat Cincinnati for the eighth straight time, allowing four hits in eight innings, as host St. Louis pulled into a first-place tie with the Reds in the NL Central.

Angels 7, Royals 2 — Torii Hunter homered and drove in three runs, and Scott Kazmir bounced back from a rocky start in his previous outing to lead visiting Los Angeles over Kansas City.

Rangers 9, White Sox 5 — Matt Treanor homered and drove in a career-high four runs, and Texas topped host Chicago.

Astros 5, Nationals 1 — Carlos Lee hit a two-run home run, Wandy Rodriguez snapped his three-game losing streak, and host Houston routed Washington.

Brewers 7, Marlins 4 — Yovani Gallardo homered for the second time this season and won his sixth straight decision as Milwaukee held off host Florida to snap a three-game skid.

Giants 4, Rockies 1 — Aaron Rowand hit a go-ahead two-run double in the fifth inning and host San Francisco backed starter Matt Cain with enough offense to avoid a three-game sweep by Colorado.

The Chicago Cubs-Pirates game was postponed because of unplayable field conditions at PNC Park in Pittsburgh after a rain delay of 3 hours 12 minutes. The game will be made up Monday at 12:35 p.m.
