Mourners attend 7-year-old’s funeral

DETROIT — Hundreds of people turned out yesterday for the funeral of a 7-year-old Detroit girl killed in a police raid and were told they must help stop the violence that has recently swept the city. Civil rights activist Al Sharpton gave the eulogy for Aiyana Stanley-Jones, and called on the congregation gathered at Second Ebenezer Church to help stop violence.

Thousands protest proposed state cuts

TRENTON — An estimated 25,000 people gathered yesterday near the New Jersey State House to protest Governor Chris Christie’s proposed budget cuts. NEW YORK — The mother of one of the three Americans detained in Iran says the pain of returning to the United States without their children is almost more than they can bear.
