IRIS

(Encore on Comcast) A heartbreakingly tender evocation of the longtime marriage and unconventional love story of celebrated writer Iris Murdoch and her less brilliant but more loving husband, John Bayley. Brilliant performance by Judi Dench as the writer trying to salvage dignity from Alzheimer’s, Jim Broadbent as her gently devoted husband, and Kate Winslet as the vibrant young bohemian Murdoch seen in flashbacks. (R; runs through June 17)

CAPITALISM: A LOVE STORY

(Comcast Movies: All Movies) Michael Moore goes after the entire US economic system. His documentary is long on damning stories of helpless families and officials profiting from the abuse of their power. But in creating this air of unstoppable cosmic economic oppression, he makes us seem a little more helpless than we actually are. (R; runs through July 7) WESLEY MORRIS

UP IN THE AIR

(Comcast Movies: All Movies) From Jason Reitman, a warm, smoothly made movie about a man (George Clooney) who spends most of his time firing people. The movie concerns his attempt to settle down. At its very best, it invents new for old Hollywood sophistication. The sequined cocktail parties and crack banter are now happening in the Admirals Club lounge. With Vera Farmiga, Jason Bateman, and Anna Kendrick, who’ll rightly be labeled a discovery. (R; runs through Aug. 31) WESLEY MORRIS
