Madonna back in Malawi for charity tour

Madonna is in Malawi for a weeklong tour. According to a program released by the pop star’s charity, Raising Malawi, Madonna was scheduled yesterday to visit the Millennium Village, a United Nations initiative in the central border district west of Lilongwe. Today she will lay the first brick of her Raising Malawi Academy for Girls, signaling the official commencement of construction of the $15 million academy, set to open in 2011.

Jolie, Pitt visit Bosnia to help war refugees

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt visited Bosnia yesterday, spotlighting the plight of 117,000 people who have not able to return to their homes, even though the Bosnia war ended 15 years ago. Jolie, who has been a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees ambassador since 2001, will visit projects meant to help Bosnians who cannot return home, either because their homes have not been rebuilt or the infrastructure in their villages has not been repaired.

Voting opens for CMT Music Awards

, Lady Antebellum, and Sugarland each are up for four CMT Music Awards. Six other country music acts received three nominations apiece. CMT announced eight nominees in most categories yesterday and fans can vote at the network’s website until May 3 to narrow each to four finalists. Voting for a winner in all categories except video of the year will start May 11. The finalists for video of the year, which includes 10 nominees, will be announced at the start of the June 9 awards show and fans will vote by text message.

Rapper charged in girlfriend’s alleged assault

A Jamaican dancehall star who has made headlines for his recurrent troubles with the law has been arrested by police again. A police statement says rapper Bounty Killer was arrested yesterday at his home in Jamaica for allegedly assaulting a girlfriend. Police did not disclose details of the alleged attack, citing an ongoing probe. The entertainer, whose real name is Rodney Price, already is being prosecuted on previous charges of illegal possession of a firearm, marijuana possession, and unlawful wounding and assault.
