“We ask everyone to pray for Chris,’’ agent Andy Simms said in a statement. “We also ask that you respect the privacy of Chris’s family. Chris is indeed battling for his life tonight, and our thoughts and prayers [are] with him during this extremely difficult time.’’
Police said a dispute began at a home just before noon and Henry jumped into the bed of the pickup truck as his fiancee - whom they did not identify by name - was driving away from the residence.
“The domestic situation continued between the operator and Mr. Henry,’’ the police said in a statement. “At some point while she was driving, Mr. Henry came out of the back of the vehicle.’’
Henry was found on a residential street about a half-mile from the home when police were called to the scene. Fey said no charges would be filed yesterday.
Henry is engaged to Loleini Tonga, and the couple has been raising three children.
Henry, whose NFL career has been plagued by off-field issues, was away from the team after breaking his left forearm during a win over Baltimore Nov. 8. He had surgery and was placed on injured reserve. Charlotte is home to his fiancee’s parents.
Team spokesman Jack Brennan said he had little information. “We are aware he was in an accident and that his injuries are very serious,’’ Brennan said.
Hamlin expected back
After missing four games because of a high right ankle sprain, Cowboys safety Ken Hamlin is expected to return for Saturday night’s game at New Orleans. Coach Wade Phillips said Hamlin took most of the snaps with the first-team defense at practice in preparation for the NFL’s most productive offense. “The mental part of it, he’s really sharp. I think that’s going to help him and us a lot,’’ Phillips said. “How rusty he is, I won’t know that until the game.’’ . . . Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware didn’t practice, but attended meetings, went through a walkthrough session, and even worked out, showing substantial progress after straining his neck last Sunday. Phillips said Ware could still play against the Saints even if he doesn’t practice.
