‘Jersey’ denounced
A national Italian-American organization based in New Jersey says an MTV reality show that depicts Italian-American beachgoers as the “hottest, tannest, craziest Guidos’’ is offensive and should be scrapped before it airs. UNICO National said yesterday that “Jersey Shore,’’ scheduled to debut Dec. 3, relies on crude stereotypes and highlights cursing, bad behavior, and violence in depicting renters at a New Jersey beach house.
Perry donates $1m
Filmmaker Tyler Perry has donated $1 million to the NAACP to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the civil rights organization. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People said the gift is the largest donation from an individual in the organization’s history. It will be distributed over four years.
Oprah’s mom settles suit with store
A financial dispute between Oprah Winfrey’s mother and a high-end fashion store in Wisconsin has been settled. Details of the agreement between Vernita Lee of Milwaukee and the Brookfield store, Valentina, have not been released. But Valentina co-owner Tony Chirchirillo said the store will receive some of the $155,000 he said it was owed. Valentina sued Lee in 2008 for failing to pay the bill. Lee’s attorneys argued the store should not have extended credit to her because of her earlier troubles paying a bill.

"I haven't met the ham that could stop me yet!" -- Celebrity chef Paula Deen, in a Twitter post after she got hit in the face with a ham that a volunteer tossed as they helped to unload 25,000 pounds of donated meat for an Atlanta food bank
