SIN NOMBRE

(Comcast Movies and Events) Cary Fukunaga’s debut follows a Mexican gangster (Edgar Flores) and a Honduran woman (Paulina Gaitan) trekking north to the United States atop a freight train. He’s on the run. Soon, so is she. Despite the film’s being well meant and better made, you can always see strings yanking. (R; runs through Oct. 29) WESLEY MORRIS

NIGHT SHIFT

(Encore on Comcast) Ron Howard’s deft offbeat comedy introduces a new talent. His name is Michael Keaton and he plays a motormouthed punk who works with Henry Winkler in a city morgue. Keaton keeps things moving until the comedy dissolves in bathos. (R; runs through Oct. 29)

THE KING AND I

(Encore on Comcast) Warner Bros. has bastardized the lovely Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, throwing in plot twists, evildoers, cute animals, and action sequences to make this animated adaptation sacrilege to anyone who loves stage musicals. Still, the animation is good enough so that the kids will love it, even if Rodgers and Hammerstein are tossing in their graves. (G; runs through Oct. 29) CATE MCQUAID
