HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH

(Encore on Comcast) A funny, spirited punked-out glam-rock opera built around a great character - an East German refugee trying to turn the pain and rage of a botched sex-change operation into whine-free art. John Cameron Mitchell, who wrote and originated the role on stage, repeats it triumphantly on screen, with a never-say-die buoyancy that makes Hedwig the Rocky of transexuality. (R; runs through Oct. 29)

DRESSED TO KILL

(Encore on Comcast) Brian De Palma hit his stride with this sensual, provocative, witty murder mystery. Although he pays his traditional homage to Hitchcock, the material is uniquely his. Michael Caine, Angie Dickinson, and Nancy Allen are perfectly cast, and De Palma races through his pulp story with the skill of a master. (R; runs through Oct. 29)

EXECUTIVE DECISION

(Encore on Comcast) This Joel Silver action thriller gets an extra half-star for the most satisfying Steven Seagal moment in the movies. Kurt Russell, as an intelligence operative specializing in the Middle East, accompanies a squad of commandos as they sneak aboard a 747 that has been hijacked by terrorists with enough firepower to waste much of the Eastern seaboard. (R; runs through Oct. 29)
