Scott Podsednik and Gordon Beckham had four RBIs apiece and the White Sox pounded out 17 hits en route to a 14-4 rout of the New York Yankees yesterday in Chicago.

In beating New York for the third straight game, the White Sox scored six times in the second inning against A.J. Burnett and added six more in the eighth.

Burnett (10-5), who won his previous five decisions, twice walked No. 9 hitter Jayson Nix with the bases loaded.

Chicago lefthander John Danks (9-7) worked six innings plus for the win, giving up seven hits and four runs.

Podsednik, who snapped an 0-for-16 slump Friday, had a two-run single in the second and drew Chicago’s third bases-loaded walk, off reliever Phil Coke, in the eighth. Beckham hit two-run doubles in the second and the eighth, and Nix finished with four walks and a double.

The White Sox had six of their hits in the second inning against Burnett.

“They did a good job of not trying to do too much. They got some key hits and quickly got hits. The second inning was the whole ballgame right there,’’ Burnett said.

A.J. Pierzynski, Carlos Quentin, and Chris Getz all singled to load the bases before Nix drew a walk on a close pitch. Podsednik followed with a two-run single, Beckham delivered his first two-run double to right and Jermaine Dye had an RBI single for a 6-0 lead.

The Yankees got two back in the third as Jerry Hairston Jr., acquired Friday in a trade with the Reds, walked, Derek Jeter doubled and Mark Teixeira had a two-out, two-run single.

But Nix came up again with the bases loaded in the fifth and drew another walk, finishing Burnett, who gave up 10 hits and seven runs in 4 2/3 innings.

Braves 4, Dodgers 3 - Derek Lowe scattered five hits over six innings in his first game against his 2008 teammates, leading host Atlanta past Los Angeles.

Lowe (11-7), who went 54-48 over four seasons with the Dodgers before agreeing to a $60 million, four-year contract with the Braves in January, won his fourth straight decision.

Adam LaRoche had two hits and scored the tying run in the sixth in his first game with the Braves since being traded by the Red Sox Friday.

Pirates 11, Nationals 6 - Pirates Outfielder Andrew McCutchen homered three times in Pittsburgh’s win over visiting Washington.

McCutchen, a rookie, doubled his home run total with three drives to left field - one just inside the foul pole. He connected leading off the first, and hit a two-run shot in the fourth and a three-run homer in the sixth to give the Pirates an 11-4 lead.

Blue Jays 6, Athletics 5 - Aaron Hill hit a three-run homer and Brett Cecil overcame one bad inning to lead visiting Toronto past Oakland.

Hill also had an RBI single. With Toronto trailing, 4-3, Hill hit a three-run shot off A’s rookie Trevor Cahill (6-10) in the fourth inning.
