Tampa Bay’s Matt Garza hit Teixeira with a fifth-inning pitch, then said he did it because he’s tired of opposing pitchers throwing at Rays All-Star Evan Longoria.

Teixeira was plunked after one of Chamberlain’s pitches sailed over Longoria’s head in the previous inning.

“They can take whatever they want from it, but I just kind of got tired of people brushing him back. It’s about time someone made a statement,’’ Garza said, noting that Longoria was hit by a pitch in the opener of the three-game series Monday night. “I hate to be that guy, but someone had to take a stand and say we’re tired of it.’’

Twins 3, White Sox 2 - Alexi Casilla, who entered the game hitting .161, had two RBIs, Minnesota’s bullpen pitched four scoreless innings, and host Minnesota completed a three-game sweep.

Giants 1, Pirates 0 - Randy Winn lined an RBI single down the first-base line with two outs in the 10th inning to help host San Francisco complete a three-game sweep. Matt Cain pitched nine scoreless innings for the Giants.

Cubs 12, Astros 0 - Randy Wells (7-4) pitched eight shutout innings and Alfonso Soriano hit a three-run homer during a six-run first inning to lead host Chicago.
