Burnett, bullpen stifle Mets

A.J. Burnett combined with two relievers on a one-hitter, Nick Swisher and Jorge Posada made Citi Field seem small with opposite-field homers, and the Yankees rolled past the Mets again, 5-0, last night for their fourth win in a row.

Alex Cora got the Mets’ only hit, lining a clean single to center on an 0-and-1 pitch leading off the sixth. He had been 0 for 21 with eight strikeouts against Burnett.

“I wanted it down a little more. That was one of those pitches where as soon as I let it go, I saw him hitting it,’’ Burnett said. “Before he even hit it, I knew it was going to be a base hit.’’

The weakened Mets - playing with center fielder Carlos Beltran, shortstop Jose Reyes, and first baseman Carlos Delgado on the disabled list - didn’t reach base after Cora. They’ve been outscored, 14-1, and outhit, 22-4, in the first two games of the weekend series.

Burnett (6-4) struck out a season-high 10 in seven innings and walked three. Brian Bruney and David Robertson each followed with a perfect inning before 41,302, the second straight record crowd at Citi Field and just the fourth sellout there this season.

The Yankees have won four of five against their crosstown rivals, clinching the season series for the first time since sweeping all six meetings in 2003, the last time they went to the World Series.

Brewers 7, Giants 6 - Prince Fielder hit a three-run homer in the sixth and then knocked in the winning run as host Milwaukee rallied with three runs in the ninth.

With one out, pinch-hitter Craig Counsell singled to left. Brian Wilson (2-4), who blew his fourth save of the season, then walked Matt Gamel. Corey Hart, who had been hitless in his last 19 at-bats, followed with an RBI single.

J.J. Hardy slapped a shot off the glove off second baseman Juan Uribe and Gamel raced from second to beat the throw home and tie the game. One out later, Fielder doubled into the right-field corner.

Rays 3, Marlins 2 - Carlos Pena hit his AL-leading 23d home run and pinch hitter Willy Aybar broke a ninth-inning tie with a sacrifice fly as host Tampa Bay won its fourth straight to climb a season-best six games over .500 at 41-35.

Rockies 11, Athletics 9 - Brad Hawpe hit the 100th home run of his career, one of four hits by Colorado’s surging offense, and Jorge De La Rosa pitched six strong innings as the visiting Rockies defeated Oakland.
