The Los Angeles Dodgers broke the modern major league record for a home winning streak to start a season with their 13th straight victory, a 10-3 win over the Washington Nationals last night.

Rafael Furcal scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning on a bases-loaded walk to Andre Ethier, and the Dodgers broke it open with seven in the sixth, including a two-run double by Manny Ramírez and a two-run single by James Loney to surpass the record of the 1911 Detroit Tigers.

Washington's Ryan Zimmerman extended his franchise-record hitting streak to 24 games with a single in the first inning.

The Dodgers' seventh straight victory made them a major league-best 21-8 overall, matching their best start since the 1977 club started out 23-6 and won an NL pennant in Tommy Lasorda's first season as manager. The 1983 Dodgers also were 21-8.

Mets 1, Phillies 0 - Johan Santana extended his dominant start to the season, striking out 10 in seven innings of two-hit ball as host New York scratched out a run on Pedro Feliz's throwing error for a win over Philadelphia.

The Phillies wasted an excellent performance from previously struggling starter Chan Ho Park, who allowed one hit in six shutout innings.

But it wasn't enough to beat Santana (4-1), who lowered his ERA to 0.91 and won by a 1-0 score for the second time in six starts this year.

Rays 4, Yankees 3 - Carlos Peña homered leading off the 10th inning, and visiting Tampa Bay survived a sudden downpour and Mark Teixeira's late, tying double to beat New York.

Peña was hitless in his first three at-bats before driving a 1-0 pitch from Phil Coke (1-2) just over the right-field wall for his major league-leading 12th home run, sending the Yankees to their fourth straight loss.

Royals 9, Mariners 1 - Mark Teahen had three hits and drove in three runs, and Sidney Ponson made a strong case to stay in the rotation with 7 1/3 solid innings to help host Kansas City beat Seattle.

The Royals won their fifth straight, turning the matchup between surprising division leaders into a rout early. They battered Carlos Silva (1-3) and got 17 hits against a Mariners staff that had the AL's second-lowest ERA.

Orioles 4, Twins 1 - Nick Markakis and Luke Scott homered, and host Baltimore won a 5 1/3-inning rain-shortened game marred by four delays totaling 3 hours 46 minutes.

Blue Jays 13, Angels 1 - Roy Halladay (6-1) became baseball's second six-game winner in visiting Toronto's rout.

Rangers 3, Athletics 2 - Elvis Andrus homered and singled, Scott Feldman (2-0) pitched six strong innings and Texas won its fifth straight, beating host Oakland.

Diamondbacks 3, Padres 1 - Justin Upton hit two home runs, including a two-run shot off Jake Peavy (2-4), to lead visiting Arizona over San Diego.

Cardinals 4, Pirates 2 - Albert Pujols homered for the fourth time in five games and Chris Duncan's two-run double in the fourth inning was the go-ahead hit as host St. Louis beat Pittsburgh to snap a three-game losing streak.

Rockies 11, Giants 1 - Ubaldo Jimenez (2-4) pitched seven strong innings to get his first win in a month and host Colorado routed San Francisco.

Brewers 15, Reds 3 - Ryan Braun hit his second career grand slam off Bronson Arroyo (4-2), who couldn't make it through the second inning in Cincinnati, and Milwaukee rolled to its most lopsided victory of the season.

Cubs 6, Astros 3 - Rich Harden (3-1) pitched into the eighth inning and Reed Johnson hit a bases-loaded triple to lead Chicago in Houston.

Braves 8, Marlins 6 - Garret Anderson's first three RBIs this season helped Atlanta end a four-game losing streak by beating Florida in Miami Gardens.

The Tigers-White Sox game in Chicago was postponed by rain. No makeup date was announced.
