Martin Brodeur is zeroing in on another record.

In his first appearance since breaking the NHL victory record, Brodeur made 35 saves in the New Jersey Devils' 4-0 win over the Minnesota Wild last night for his 101st shutout, just two behind Terry Sawchuk's mark.

"It's a lot of shutouts," Brodeur said. "That record is proof of commitment by an organization to play well defensively. You can't do it by yourself. With the amount of shutouts that I've got, you've got to consider that the team is doing the right things."

Patrik Elias tallied twice, giving him 30 for the season, and Brian Gionta and Johnny Oduya scored as the Devils extended their team-record home winning streak to 11.

The focus was again squarely on Brodeur as the Devils rebounded from an emotional letdown Wednesday night in a 4-2 loss in Carolina with backup Kevin Weekes in goal. That came a night after Brodeur earned his 552d win to break Patrick Roy's record.

Penguins 4, Kings 1 - Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin each had a goal and an assist to help host Pittsburgh beat Los Angeles.

Marc-Andre Fleury made 24 saves, and Tyler Kennedy and Bill Guerin added goals for Pittsburgh. The surging Penguins won their third consecutive game to improve to 12-1-3 under interim coach Dan Bylsma.

Hurricanes 5, Islanders 4 - Chad LaRose and Matt Cullen each scored two goals and Carolina ran its home winning streak to seven games.

The Hurricanes jumped to sixth in the Eastern Conference, a point ahead of the Rangers and two in front of Montreal.

Flyers 6, Sabres 4 - Daniel Briere scored twice in a 2:05 span in the second period for his first multigoal game in more than six months, lifting visiting Philadelphia.

Red Wings 6, Thrashers 3 - Johan Franzen had a goal and two assists, and former Atlanta star Marian Hossa scored his 36th goal to help visiting Detroit win its fourth straight.

Oilers 5, Blackhawks 4 - Patrick O'Sullivan and Ales Kotalik scored in a shootout to give visiting Edmonton its third straight victory and strengthen its hold on seventh place in the Western Conference.

Blues 3, Flames 2 - Andy McDonald and Jay McClement scored in a 51-second span in the third period in St. Louis's victory in Calgary.
