Behind the European exterior with its curved brown awning and lace half-curtains on the windows is a little neighborhood bakery called Bella Moto Baking (Moto was the name of owner Frances Grandinetti's late friend). In the glass case, you'll see her confections: mini concords (little chocolate meringues with chocolate mousse), classic French croissants, scones, biscotti, a fig multigrain bar, pecan ginger shortbread, decorated cookies as well as wedding cookies, pear frangipane tarts, and mini linzer tortes. Grandinetti has switched to organic evaporated cane juice instead of refined sugar. Special-order vegan and gluten-free layer cakes, pies, and brownies with a day's notice. The baker also makes challah on Fridays. Something for everyone. Bella Moto Baking, 916 Mass Ave., Arlington, 781-646-2253.
