Champagne or chocolate, truffles or tea for two

The words roll sweetly across the tongue: Falmouth, Chatham, Mashpee, Teaticket, Cotuit, Truro, and all the other place names that represent Cape Cod. Summertime is busy time here, which means that excitement and prices are at their height. Nonetheless, many lodging places add several "extras" to attract your attention. A sampler:

Ashley Manor, a six-room bed-and-breakfast in Barnstable, offers a One Enchanted Evening package as a way to celebrate special occasions. Featured are chilled champagne in your room upon arrival and complimentary cordials; a Jacuzzi "goodie" bag with bath crystals and lotions; and a $50 dinner voucher valid at several participating mid-Cape restaurants. Among rooms at the inn are four suites with working fireplaces, Jacuzzi whirlpool tubs for two, and queen or king canopy or high-poster beds. The package is $120 over the cost of a room, which for suites is $175-$225. And despite the name of the package, a minimum two-night stay is required on weekends.

Visit ashleymanor.net or call 888-535-2246.

There are no extras in the Sweet Summer Deal at the Four Points by Sheraton Hyannis Resort Cape Cod , but there is a $160 rate, available July 1-Aug. 31.

Call 866-716-8118 and mention code 160PROMO or visit starwoodhotels.com, click on Four Points, and navigate to the Hyannis resort.

Many properties raise their rates in mid-June, so with luck, people planning a stay in the next couple of weeks could get good weather, smaller crowds, and a lower price. Through June 14, Clapp's Guest House in Harwich Port (capecodtravel.com/clapp ; 508-432-0600 ) is offering three nights for the price of two, with off-season rates beginning at $65. Through June 15, Saltwinds Bed & Breakfast and Guest House in Hyannis (saltwindsbb.com ; 508-775-2038 ) has an $89 rate with full breakfast and free transportation to and from the harbor. Through June 14, stay two nights at the Old Sea Pines Inn in Brewster (oldseapinesinn.com ; 508-896-6114 ) and get a third night free with a full breakfast Sundays-Thursdays.

These and other offers are listed at capecodchamber.org . Click on value vacations, then on summer vacation packages.

If, on the other hand, you can stay any day July 8-14, the Dan'l Webster Inn & Spa in Sandwich Village is offering its Summer Sizzler with two nights in your choice of room type and a $50 gift card for the inn's restaurants, spa, or gift shop. Rates begin at $249 a night, and reservations must be made in June.
