The biggest Big East game of the regular season went to No. 12 Georgetown, whose tenacious defense made the difference in the final minutes of a 61-53 victory over No. 10 Pittsburgh yesterday in Washington.

Jonathan Wallace scored 17 points, Jeff Green had 14, and Roy Hibbert added 12 as the Hoyas (22-5, 12-2) slogged their way to their 11th straight win and sole possession of first place in the conference with one week to play.

Jessie Sapp's layup with 3:17 remaining broke a 49-49 tie. Wallace followed with a steal and layup, and Green made a steal and fed Sapp for a layup that pushed the lead to 57-51.

Pitt (24-5, 11-3) got Aaron Gray back from a sprained ankle, but the 7-footer had just 10 points and six rebounds off the bench.

LSU 66, Florida 56 -- The host Tigers shook off the effects of a three-game skid to topple the third-ranked Gators, getting 18 points from Terry Martin.

Florida (25-4, 12-2) had little riding on the game and played like it, perking up an otherwise lost season for LSU (15-13, 4-10), which was without injured star Glen Davis. The Gators were just 2 of 17 from 3-point range.

UCLA 75, Stanford 61 -- The No. 4 Bruins (25-3, 14-2) clinched at least a share of the Pac-10 title and closed out their first undefeated home campaign in 32 years as Arron Afflalo dropped 20 points on the Cardinal (17-10, 9-7).

Kansas 89, Iowa St. 52 -- Mario Chalmers scored 18 points, five other Jayhawks hit double figures, and No. 6 Kansas (25-4, 12-2 Big 12) held the Cyclones (14-14, 5-9) to 15 first-half points and led by as many as 41 in Lawrence, Kan.

Texas A&M 97, Baylor 87 -- The eighth-ranked Aggies (24-4, 12-2 Big 12) gave up their most points this season, but Acie Law pumped in 31 points to help Texas A&M survive a shootout with the visiting Bears (13-14, 3-11).

Washington St. 58, Oregon St. 54 -- Mac Hopson's jumper with 35.5 seconds to go allowed the No. 9 Cougars (23-5, 12-4 Pac-10) to put away the Beavers (11-19, 3-14) for good in Corvallis, Ore.

Nevada 95, Boise St. 81 -- The No. 11 Wolf Pack (26-2, 13-1 WAC) picked up their ninth straight win, getting 28 points from Nick Fazekas in Boise, Idaho.

Southern Illinois 76, Evansville 69 -- Randal Falker racked up 30 points to carry the 13th-ranked Salukis (25-5, 15-3 Missouri Valley) at home in the regular-season finale for both teams.

TCU 71, Air Force 66 -- Carrying an 11-game losing streak into the matchup, the host Horned Frogs (11-15, 3-11 Mountain West) received 19 points from Ryan Wall and shot 75 percent in the second half to knock off the No. 14 Falcons (23-6, 10-5).

Butler 56, Detroit 36 -- At Indianapolis, Brandon Crone scored 17 points and the No. 15 Bulldogs (26-5, 13-3) held the Titans (11-18, 6-10) to a season-low point total in clinching a share of the Horizon League championship.

Notre Dame 85, Marquette 73 -- Down 13 midway through the first half, the host Fighting Irish (22-6, 10-5 Big East) clawed back behind Luke Harangody (22 points). The No. 16 Golden Eagles (22-8, 9-6) have dropped four of five.

Texas 68, Oklahoma 58 -- Kevin Durant matched his career high with five 3-pointers and scored 32 points to pace the 19th-ranked Longhorns (21-7, 11-3 Big 12) in Norman, Okla.

San Diego St. 86, BYU 74 -- Brandon Heath (30 points) took care of the offense for the host Aztecs (20-8, 9-5 Mountain West), who blitzed the No. 21 Cougars (21-7, 11-3) early.

Auburn 86, Alabama 77 -- Quan Prowell and Korvotney Barber each had 17 points as the visiting Tigers (16-14, 6-8 SEC) easily dealt the No. 25 Crimson Tide (19-9, 6-8) their fourth loss in five games.
