Fruit chaat

Serves 8

3 bananas 2 navel oranges 1 ripe mango 2 medium apples 2 medium pears 2 medium nectarines or peaches Juice of 2 lemons or 1/3 cup fresh fruit juice 1 teaspoon black pepper 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon crushed cumin seeds 2 tablespoons sugar (optional) 1. Remove the skins from the bananas, oranges, and mango. Cut all the fruit into bite-size pieces. Combine the fruits in a large bowl. Sprinkle with lemon or fruit juice.

2. In a small bowl, combine the black and red peppers, salt, and cumin seeds. Taste for sweetness and add the sugar, if you like. Sprinkle over the fruit.
