Morgan Pressel's second round at the Safeway Classic took an early turn for the worse with a double bogey on the fourth hole.

``Unlucky, unlucky, unlucky," she said, describing her shot sequence. ``It was bad."

Yet Pressel birdied the next hole, and gained a stroke here and there to climb back up the leaderboard.

She capped the day with a 25-foot putt from the fringe on the 18th hole to grab a share of the lead going into today's final round. Pressel finished yesterday's second round with a 69 for a 7-under 137 at Columbia-Edgewater Golf Club in Portland, Ore. She joins Jenna Daniels, Jeong Jang, and Candie Kung on top.

``This is the best I've played in a while," said the 18-year-old Pressel, who won the US Women's Amateur last year.

Daniels bogeyed her first three holes, but recovered with the help of six birdies -- including a key one on No. 17 after a tee shot into the trees -- to finish at 1-under 71.

``I knew I needed to keep it below the limb [in front of her], but above the limb close to the green," she said. ``I couldn't have hit it any better."

Kung shot a 66; Jang a 68.

Juli Inkster shot 67 to put her in a group of six at 6 under. She noted that with so many players finishing well, today could be anyone's day.

``I'm not even on the leaderboard, so people can kind of pop up and you don't even know about them," she said.

Pat Hurst had a 69 to join the 6-under group.

Rookie Jee Young Lee, the leader after the first day, tumbled with a 3-over 75 and wrapped up at 5 under.

Defending champion Soo-Yun Kang of South Korea withdrew after nine holes because of a neck injury.

Champions -- Don Pooley shot a 7-under 65 and took a one-stroke lead over Scott Simpson and first-round leader Massy Kuramoto in the Boeing Greater Seattle Classic in Snoqualmie, Wash.

Pooley, who turns 55 next week, finished at 12-under 132 on the TPC at Snoqualmie Ridge course. Simpson, the 1987 US Open champion, was at 11 under following a career-best round of 61 that included 11 birdies, seven on the back nine. His previous best round was 62 at the 1991 Hawaiian Open. It also set the competitive record for the Jack Nicklaus-designed TPC course.

Kuramoto, who opened with a then course-record 9-under 63 Friday, stumbled early in the second round of event but recovered for a 2-under 70 to tie Simpson at 133.

Three others were tied at 9-under 135, including Tom Kite, who made an early afternoon charge. Kite, who began the day eight shots behind, used his putter well to shoot a 64, finishing with eight birdies. He needed just 21 putts for his round. Kite is tied with Australian Graham Marsh and Ireland's Des Smyth, three strokes behind Pooley.

European -- Spain's Alejandro Canizares shot a 5-under 67 for a one-stroke lead at the Russian Open in Nakhabino.

Canizares, the son of former Ryder Cup player Jose-Maria Canizares, was at 16-under 200, one shot better than first-round leader David Drysdale of Scotland (69) and second-round co-leader Carlos Rodiles of Spain (69).
