Hot springs and spas Truth or Consequences, N.M.
Once known as Hot Springs, this town renamed itself Truth or Consequences in 1950, in honor of the TV game show. Because of the hot mineral springs, the Southwestern Indians considered the site neutral grounds and came to cure what ailed them. In the late 19th century, cowboys built the first adobe bathhouse over Geronimo Springs. The mineralized water has no unpleasant odor, and since chloride is the main ingredient, germs are not a worry. Services include aromatherapy and mud baths.
