Bend, twist, add culture, mix vigorously

When we were on a getaway last summer at Kripalu , the yoga center in the Berkshires, we happened to arrive on the final day of a ``CircusYoga for Families" session. This meant that we saw a wonderful performance by children and parents who had trained for four days using yoga practices and techniques to present their introductory circus skills like juggling, tightwire, acrobatics, and a parent- child clown ring. It made us think what a wonderful idea it would be for a parent to combine the yoga for these active ages -- 7 to 13 -- with a little culture at Tanglewood next door, which also has activities for children. You can literally walk (or bike) down a tree-lined country road to the Tanglewood lawn in Lenox, where the Boston Symphony Orchestra, in its summer digs, offers arts and crafts projects for kids, including making their own instruments. The BSO Watch and Play program introduces children to musical instruments at 1 p.m. on select Sundays before the day's 2:30 p.m. BSO concert, and if a parent or legal guardian buys a lawn ticket for the concert, up to four children under age 12 get their tickets free.
