Doug Weight scored two goals and the league-leading Carolina Hurricanes set franchise records for victories, home wins and points in a season with a 5-3 victory over the slumping New York Rangers last night at Raleigh, N.C.

Matt Cullen, Mike Commodore and Cory Stillman also scored for the Hurricanes, who earned their 44th victory, 27th home win and 94th point in the standings -- surpassing three records set in Hartford during the 1986-87 season.

Martin Gerber finished with 41 saves to help Carolina avoid its first four-game losing streak of the season.

Michael Nylander scored two goals for New York, which has lost six straight after wining seven in a row. Petr Sykora also scored for New York.

Sabres 6, Capitals 4 -- Ales Kotalik scored the winning goal with 1:43 to play, and Buffalo ran its winning streak to seven by beating host Washington.

Kotalik poked in his 24th goal of the season off Jochen Hecht's pass from behind the net to give the Sabres a 5-4 lead. Maxim Afinogenov added an empty-net goal with one second left.

Islanders 6, Devils 1 -- Rick DiPietro made 16 saves and the resurgent Islanders extended their winning streak to four games by routing New Jersey at East Rutherford, N.J.

DiPietro, honored Monday as the NHL defensive player of the week, won his seventh straight start and has allowed one goal or fewer in the last four games.

Senators 4, Lightning 3 -- Daniel Alfredsson scored with 5.2 seconds left as host Ottawa tipped Tampa Bay, which has lost six of eight.

Alfredsson assisted on Dany Heatley's tying goal earlier in the period and got the winner moments before the end of regulation, tipping Heatley's pass beyond John Grahame into an open right side from the edge of the crease.

Coyotes 6, Kings 2 -- Geoff Sanderson had a goal and two assists, Mike Ricci and Dave Scatchard scored on power plays, and Phoenix snapped a 13-game road winless streak against Los Angeles.

Predators 5, Canucks 0 -- Tomas Vokoun made 31 saves for his third shutout of the season and Dan Hamhuis and Scott Hartnell each had a goal and an assist in host Nashville's shutout victory over Vancouver, which has lost five straight.

Oilers 2, Wild 1 -- Dwayne Roloson won for the first time with his new team, stopping 30 shots to lead Edmonton over his old team, Minnesota, in St. Paul. The Oilers snapped a four-game road losing streak and moved into a tie for seventh place in the West with Vancouver.
