Acquired from the Chicago White Sox July 31 for Jose Contreras, Loaiza has made himself nearly superfluous in the Yankees' six-man rotation, going 0-2 with a 7.08 ERA in four starts. The crowd booed loudly after Guillen's homer put Anaheim ahead, 2-1, again when DaVanon homered three pitches later, and yet again when Chone Figgins's drive into the right-field upper deck hooked just foul.
Loaiza has allowed 29 homers, third most in the AL.
Tigers 11, Mariners 10 -- Craig Monroe hit an RBI single with one out in the 11th, leading host Detroit to a wild victory in which the teams combined for a Comerica Park-record 36 hits, including 21 by Seattle. Rondell White led off the 11th for the Tigers with a single off Scott Atchison (1-1), and Carlos Guillen hit into a force out, and then stole second. Monroe followed by lining a pitch to center field, and Guillen easily beat Randy Winn's throw to the plate, giving Detroit its third straight win. Winn matched a career high with five hits, going 5 for 6 -- including his 11th homer -- with four RBIs. Ichiro Suzuki went 4 for 7 with two RBIs. Twins 8, Indians 1 -- Justin Morneau and Torii Hunter hit consecutive homers, and Terry Mulholland pitched six strong innings to lead host Minnesota over Cleveland. Cleveland dropped six back in the Central following its sixth straight loss. The Indians have been outscored, 43-12, during their losing streak, and Minnesota has won five of six in that span. Blue Jays 10, Orioles 4 -- Carlos Delgado homered and drove in three runs to key a 15-hit outburst as visiting Toronto handed Baltimore its fifth straight loss.Rookie Dave Bush (2-3) allowed three runs in six innings for the Blue Jays, who have their first winning streak under interim manager John Gibbons. Athletics 5, Devil Rays 0 -- Barry Zito scattered four hits over eight innings, leading visiting Oakland. Bobby Crosby, Marco Scutaro, and Mark Kotsay homered for the A's, who have won five straight.
Rangers 5, Royals 3 -- At Kansas City, Mo., Mark Teixeira hit his 30th homer, Manny Alexander added a two-run double, and the Rangers won their eighth straight. Texas matched its longest winning streak of the season and trail first-place Oakland by a half-game in the West.
