If you're lucky, you'll have a friend who can lead you to this out-of-the-way bakery in the middle of the residential neighborhood of Readville in Hyde Park. You'll never find it on your own, though it's well worth the search. Jim Mariano has been baking brick-oven bread, pizza, croissants, turnovers, Danishes, and much more for 26 years. Try a slice of Sicilian pizza, warm in the front window, for $1.25. The kids at St. Anne's School across the street come in every day for the oversized cupcakes with gobs of frosting. On weekends, a French pastry maker fills the case with all sorts of tarts and sweets.
