With the arrival of spring, daydreams go outdoors. For many, that means looking forward to hopping on a bicycle and breezing along at a pleasant pace -- one that lets you enjoy the scenery close up instead of roaring by in a blur. Here are some ideas to get your wheels turning.

Ride Noho draws cyclists every summer and fall to picturesque Western Massachusetts for clinics, camps, and special weekends. Rates range from $140-$230per person, per day, and include lodging, breakfast, lunch, and riding support. One example is the new Pedal and Paddle vacation July 26-28 and Sept. 13-15. Day 1 will feature 53 miles of riding. Day 2 includes 15 miles of leisurely paddling on the Connecticut River. Day 3 will be devoted to more cycling.

Easy Rider Tours of Newburyport offers weeklong guided biking and walking vacations on So Miguel Island in the Azores. Participants follow coastal roads with ocean views and explore interior routes through forests of Japanese cedar, big-leaf hydrangea, and wild ginger. Highlights include a view of the twin lakes of Sete Cidades, a tour of Europe's only tea plantation, and a cozido feast, a traditional Azorean casserole cooked in a volcanic steam vent. Tour dates are July 3-9 and July 31-Aug. 6; walking trips are planned for July 10-16 and Aug. 7-13. The price of $1,895 includes luxury accommodations, most meals, the services of two bilingual guides, van support, and luggage transfers.

Register before May 1 and save up to $70 on Bicycle Idaho July 25-31 or the Oregon Bicycle Ride Aug. 8-14. Prices for the scenic tours begin at $675 and include all breakfasts and dinners, camping fees, gear transport, showers, vehicle support, and a commemorative item. For a few, there is a bonus: Couples have been known to meet while biking, fall in love, and marry.

Boston-based Bike Riders has announced its 2004 itineraries, including new trips to the Berkshires and Vermont, to Corsica, and along the race routes of the Tour de France. Those vacations add to the company's list of trips to New England, the Canadian Maritimes, Ireland, Italy, France, and Spain. Prices vary. The five-night Berkshires and Vermont trip, for example, costs $1,680 and covers 15-40 miles a day on gently rolling or just plain rolling terrain with some hills. All breakfasts, all dinners but one, and a picnic lunch are included, as are stays in inns. Those who rent bicycles pay an extra $110. There are six tour dates, from July to October.
