Rock picks

January 16, 2004|Globe Staff

Rock at the arena level has been sparse (hey, who wants to tour in zero-degree weather?), but the exception is tomorrow's ambitious bill at the Worcester Centrum Centre. Look for some heat to be generated by Linkin Park (last in town with Metallica's Summer Sanitarium Tour), P.O.D., Hoobastank, and Story of the Year. Otherwise, you'll be back in the clubs, where some tasty rock still awaits, notably Kay Hanley at the Paradise Lounge tonight and Baby Ray at the Linwood, also tonight. Blues master Luther "Guitar Junior" Johnson is at Johnny D's tonight, followed by soul singer supreme Nicole Nelson at the same club tomorrow. And Steve Murphy, who was such a vital part of the now-defunct Yardrock in Quincy, performs at Malachy's in Quincy tomorrow.
